The woman behind the silk

Art to wear

Every design is born from an original work by Sandra Salvat and comes to life on silk.

"

I don't make scarves. I paint emotions... then I fold them in silk so you can carry them with you wherever you go.

I transform my watercolours and paintings into wearable pieces

I am an artist and creator of silk pieces inspired by nature, colour and emotion. I was born in Barcelona and from an early age I found in painting my way of expressing the world around me. My mother graduated in art from the Llotja in Barcelona and from a young age encouraged me to pick up a paintbrush. I trained as a painter at several art academies in Barcelona, and in London I learned ancient decorative painting techniques. After years creating murals, frescoes and artistic projects for public and private spaces in various cities, I discovered in silk a new canvas: a living, elegant material that allows me to transform my watercolours and paintings into original scarves, accessories and wearable pieces. Every creation is born from an original work inspired by nature, colour and the beauty of small details.

Between Barcelona and Berlin, I continue exploring new ways of uniting art, craftsmanship and timeless elegance. For me, silk is much more than a fabric: it is a canvas that allows every work to come alive and accompany whoever wears it.

"My paintings are born in the studio; my scarves continue their journey with you."

A garden, a silk canvas, a revelation

It all began with a watercolour: Flora Blanes, inspired by the Botanical Garden in this corner of the Mediterranean Costa Brava. Its square composition made me imagine it transformed into a silk scarf.

When I saw my work printed on silk, I was captivated by the intensity of the colours, the delicate sheen of the fabric, its softness and natural movement. The transformation was so special that I decided to give new life to more of my paintings. That is how my first collection of silk scarves was born — and with it, the world of Sandra Salvat.

"Silk doesn't forgive mistakes. That's exactly why I love it — it demands complete presence."

03 The artist

From art to silk

My journey as a painter goes back to my childhood. I have always felt a desire to paint and to look through books about painters — especially a book on Velázquez that was in my parents' home. I was fascinated by the perfection of his portraits; I could spend hours looking at Las Meninas, playing at discovering the hidden story.

From a young age my mother encouraged me to enter painting competitions, some of which I won. I attended various painting academies. I made trips with other painters to paint outdoors across Catalonia, as the Impressionists had done. I drew from life, painted still lifes and landscapes, learned to mix my palette, and developed my sensitivity to colour and composition.

How every piece is born

The artisan process

01
Observation and sketch

Every design starts in a sketchbook. Sandra paints from real places — gardens, façades, beaches, mountains, botanical specimens — translating observation into watercolour composition before touching the silk.

02
The silk

We use silk crafted in Como. Before delivery, each piece is carefully inspected by hand to ensure the highest quality and perfection of every detail.

03
Vibrant, luminous colours

The silk is printed with steam-fixed dyes using an ancient artisan process that combines time, precision and knowledge.

04
Finishing and care

After steaming to permanently set the colours, each scarf is folded and finished by hand. A final inspection ensures that every piece meets the quality of a signed work.
